What is most important to you? Some people may be fine living in a tent and digging holes.  If you need more, that is fine.  Live up to your own expectations. 

Do not worry about what other's are doing.  You don't like chickens cool.  If you want eggs, just support someone who does like chickens and sells the eggs.

No, wearing overalls is not a homesteading requirement. Just do you and that will make you much more happy in the end.

Find your people. Join a group that helps each other out.
