Green Dream Project: Jim and Jess have done so much on their property. They build using misprinted feed and seed bags. They fill them with dirt, pack them down, put barbed wire between courses to hold them together, keep stacking and cover with cob. That sounds simple but really takes a lot of work and planning. They are using soil from their property which keeps the cost down. They buy the straw to mix for the cob.
Some things they have tackled are: water cistern, underground building, and what must be the tallest earth bag around. These two work well together and whenever possible add in teaching moments about building, animals, and desert life.
Tiny Shiny Home: This family of 6 have "dug into" the Arizona desert. This group is using hyper adobe bags for their build. These bags come in a continuous roll. They are filled with soil tamped down, dampened to make one course (layer) stick to the next no barbed wire used in this method. They are putting out a crazy number of videos filled with tips, tricks, wins and losses. The four youngsters offer weekly tidbits of education, there are some cooking tips, lots of cameos by the chickens, cats, dogs, goats, pigs, and local critters.
Enjoy Ashley and Jonathan as they laugh their way through some hard work.
Affordable Desert Living: Don is a senior living off the grid. He never claims to be an expert but that hasn't stopped him from giving his all to get projects done on his homestead. He seems to be a kind fellow with a great determination sharing his message of "if I can do it, you can too". He has documented getting his place, putting up gutters, setting up a rain catchment, building a pond. Don will make you smile with his calm positive attitude.
